This was the most difficult task, until now, but I did it and I think I did pretty good. Not perfect but as the first criteria I've ever done, it's ok. I started to look assessment through the learning outcomes and then how to get there. How the assignments done will help the students to get the knowledge and what and how will they be evaluated. Then by one part at the time I wrote the tasks and what are the contents and points that I will wan't the students to think and notice. And what will they learn from them. Then I compared the levels to the assessment criteria from Hamk and this is my outcome.

Assessment and so on..
We got an assignment from Irma Kunnari and I'm not sure yet what to do with this and the deadline is tomorrow..
The aim of the assignment is that you develop your pedagogical competence by deepening your theoretical, practical and self-regulative knowledge about assessment.
Question 2. I have read and watched videos about assessment but it seems that assessment is always just a small part of book, guides and other material related to teaching. But in real life it is not! Everything has to do with assessment criteria. I think that this is possible to learn properly only by doing and failing several times. Here's some material I've been reading:
https://www.avoin.helsinki.fi/opettajille/arviointi.htm
http://www15.uta.fi/arkisto/verkkotutor/arviointi.htm
http://ftpmirror.your.org/pub/wikimedia/images/wikiversity/fi/9/9d/Oppimisenarviointimenetelmat.pdf
Question 3. Read again parts 1. and 2.
Back to question 1. As I'm starting my PTT next week I probably should learn to make assessment criteria for the course before that. So my objective will be creating assessment criteria for the course Equine Sports. Grading is done by numbers 1 to 5. (Why do we need number in the first place? I don't think anybody looks at them after graduating.)
Learning targets for the course: The student can define the types of equine sports, competition systems and requirements of horse material and framework for equine sports in Finland and plan and organize a horse event in a safe manner.
There will not be a final exam but I will give the students two learning assignments to do which they will present in the classroom. Plus the tasks we will do in class. continue..
The aim of the assignment is that you develop your pedagogical competence by deepening your theoretical, practical and self-regulative knowledge about assessment.
- Design the objective of your own assignment – What kind of things you like to focus on? What could be useful for you – and also for your practical teacher training? The idea is that you learn something new and interesting about assessment. You can for example concentrate on assessment methods, peer assessment, self-assessment, using digital tools in assessment or you can investigate how students can create evidence of their competences in an innovative way. Use the ideas ( and material) brought up in contact day 13.2.2015.
- Design the ways you learn: Do you need to read and explore about assessment ( see you books in this course or find new material from the net)? Do you have the possibility to try new methods in practice? Do you need to interview somebody? Etc.
- Present your learning outcomes in your personal blog ( in your personal way) by 11.3.2015. Remember to write what were your references ( links to nice material in the web for the others also). Please elaborate: What did you learn? How did you learn? What was most meaningful findings for yourself?

I really should write more often my learning diary..
The christmas break was needed...
In january we started a new subject: Guidance of learning and assessment.
Again a subject that I know nothing beforehand. (I hate to start every task with this sentence.) This course we learned (and still continue) about how to guide students in learning process, how to use and study in different learning environments and about assessment. It seems that the assessment is the most hard and difficult thing in the whole teaching.
We did a presentation about learning environments in february. In a good learning environment are considered its physical, psychological and social aspects. Always the goal of the studies has to be in mind, what is the meaning and the wanted outcomes of the studying? How to organize the learning environment so that it benefits learning the most? In my teaching field, horses and equine industries, the best way and the best learning environment is working in the stable. Or to organize the events around horses, like trotting races or riding competitions. This brings me into planning my PTT course: Equine sports
The course is 5 credits in total but my part for the PTT will be 2,5 credits since the other half will be organized in the autumn. The course contains the different equine sports we have in Finland, how they are organized and the safety aspects included. Students will also learn about the rules of everymans rights considering horses and riding. I started the planning by trying to make the assessment criteria but it's too hard and I just have to get more knowledge about it before I can actually write them. The other thing difficult (well everything about this is extremely difficult and I don't wan't to fail!) are the teaching methods and so on. We are now doing assignments about pedacogical content knowledge and I hope to learn something about the methods and how to apply them in real world teaching. It's so hard when I still have to learn these things my self and at the same time try to plan my teaching without being sure of what do these theories mean. Am I thinking about the right things even?

Distance period 3 and forward..
So much to do and so little time
Dear diary, I had to prioritise my tasks so I decided to leave learning diary as last thing..
There were three major tasks to do during the 3rd distance period: Familiarise the legislation concerning education, principles of learning and the first competence essay concerning learning community. The learning community essay I found the most hard. I had never been writing text this wide in English and about a topic that I knew almost nothing in beforehand! My topic was teacher's working community.
Essay 1: Learning community
The starting point was that I had to choose a topic that fits in learning community competence area and goes together with my group members topics. With that I did perfectly but in personal level it would've given me more if I could've invent a topic more concretely related to my teaching field. Of course working community is related to every field. Well I had to start with something since the time was running and I started to write 10 days before deadline. That was the first mistake but how was I supposed to know that this task should have been started in the beginning of the studies when I knew nothing? The second mistake was that I started to write without any plan or structure. And material for that matter. This made me feel a little bit of panic that I just have to write this no matter what. True, there is no other way to get things done then just do the hard work. And there's no better motivater then the final deadline Reading about the topic was interesting and now I know some basics about it but as a scientific work my essay didn't come out so professional. Well I plan the whole thing while I was writing it. The use of references was weak: I used the material that I found last minute, not the most new or reliable ones. I also defined my subject based on what material I could find. There was actually no time for reading the material through completely. But I passed. I got it finished before the deadline and we did a very traditional seminar presentation about it with my peer group. (boring talk blabla powerpoint).
It turned out that I have learned the competences of learning community at least ok. For the next competence essay I'll pick a topic much earlier and make a plan for the work and the material that I need. But now there's more time..
Principles of learning
The first task was to familiarise the main learning theories. We did this in group discussions in Mooodle and it went good. Then we had a group exam which I was a little bit scared of before. But it was very pleasant and I learned so much more that I ever would have if I had to do that alone. Luckily we had a summary about the theories made by Jari which we could use during the exam. This kind of groupwork I will use in teaching in the future.
So now is a time for Christmas brake, only one task to do before January. (exept that I should plan my PTT course) I'll get into that during Christmas days when there's nothing else to do.

WEB-course
What did I learn?
Now we've finished the web-course. I found it useful, necessary even to me. Just to learn how to use the basic tools but also the final part of the legistlation and copyrights was needed. Well these things change so fast that it's probably impossible to keep up with new updates. I had never even heard about for example Creative Commons which seems a good service for teacher. Before I didn't use Skype or Adobe Connect, but now they seem easy way to contact people. So I learned the options that exist but I think I'll stick to basic stuff when doing PTT.

Distance period 2
Time flies
But I'm miraculously on schedule! I was almost devastated when I realized how much there was to do in this period. I still have to do one before wednesday. My peer group is so great. They give me ideas and it's much more easier to do the tasks as a group than all alone.
I'm glad that I took part on every presentation of WEB-course. Now I know at least what their talking about when I here the names of those web-tools!
I visited my PTT institute and I'll start to plan the course and my practice after the next contact days. I already have some ideas what I want to do.

Contact days2, PDP and so on..
The first distance period went fast by struggling with all the tasks and deadlines. But I made it, I think I got everything done in time.
I've learned that the contact days are very much essential in learning. I need that kind of support that comes from my classmates. It's always good to have face to face discussions with people and realize that they have the same problems as I have.
PDP-discussion with Katja
I was very confused before the PDP-discussion. I almost didn't even know what did all the parts in the PDP-form mean. But after the discussion it was more clear. I just have to think about it a little bit more before submitting the plan in Moodle. And start to think about the subject for the first essay. I have also talked with a teacher in Mustiala, Terhi Thuneberg. I'm going to be doing my PTT in Mustiala in spring time.
WEB-course
I definitely need more routine to use Web-tools. I took part of Jukkas presentations about web-tools and I found it useful. Also this, just need to practise a lot on my own.
